Science and Language Ecosystems


Low Literacy students with English as an Additional Language need scaffolding in order to build their language and comprehension. Without this, they are unable to access mainstream curriculum content. This model unit developed by Miranda McCallum and Jenny Miller outlines a range of activity types and sequences designed for this purpose. This resource was created in response to findings from an ARC linkage project between Monash University and DEECD on Designing a model of pedagogy for low literacy refugee-background students: Connecting language, literacy and content-based learning.
